For five years, California was home to me, and when asked, it still feels like my home. It was the place I found myself, found my people, and found my grounding space. A few times a year I return to remind myself of why it has such a special place in my heart. The older I get, the longer the visits are becoming with an official virtual office being established during the pandemic. My home away from home has now become my virtual office away from my virtual office. I could not be more excited!

A wise mentor asked me once what my ideal client looked like? I have never really thought about an ideal client? Counseling is all about meeting the client where they are at. So, we don’t usually use the word ideal. However, when I thought about it for a while and this is what I came up with:

My Approach to Online Therapy
I am often asked what my “clinical style or approach” is? That’s a tough question to answer. But, I will try to explain it.
I am a graduate school professor with SW@Simmons. I tell my students that ECLECTIC is not the correct answer in a job interview. It sends the message that you are a jack/jill of all trades, and master of none. For example, I would not go to my amazing primary care physician to set a broken bone.
But, my clinical approach is to meet you EXACTLY where you are at. Right now. In the muck of your life. Empowering you to reach your goals so that you can thrive. So, that means I am assertively present to ensure that you meet your goals for therapy. There is a fine line between assertive and blunt. But, in the end it is all about holding you accountable to the goals we mutually establish in the beginning of our therapeutic relationship. To do this I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT).
The techniques may mean nothing to you or they may be exactly what you are looking for. The bottom line, I will use any technique that mirrors your personality, your strengths, and your goals so that you can thrive. So, I am eclectic. But in a uniquely fabulous way – just like you!
